Triglyceride-rich lipoprotein remnant levels and metabolism

چکیده
mong the major components of the standard plasma lipid rofile, the total triglyceride (TG) level is generally considred the weakest risk factor for atherosclerosis, for which here are several likely contributing reasons. First, TG is eadily metabolized and is not a major constituent of therosclerotic plaque. Second, plasma TG varies greatly rom day to day in the fasting state and even more in the enerally unmeasured postprandial state. More importantly, here is considerable heterogeneity among TG-rich lipoproeins (TGRLs) ranging from highly atherogenic TGRL emnants to larger chylomicrons (and larger very lowensity lipoproteins, VLDLs) too large to penetrate the rtery wall (1) and hence ineffectual substrates for plaque rogression (2). The preferential excess of these very large, onatherogenic TGRLs above a plasma TG of approxi-

Markers of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein remnant metabolism in visceral obesity.
BACKGROUND Triglyceride-rich lipoprotein remnants are atherogenic, and this may be particularly important in visceral obesity. We investigated remnant metabolism in obese men by measuring remnant-like particle-cholesterol (RLP-C), apolipoprotein (apo) B-48, apoC-III, and the clearance of a labeled remnant-like emulsion. METHODS Fasting RLP-C, apoB-48, and apoC-III concentrations were measured...
متن کاملMetabolic Characterization of a Rare Genetic Variation Within APOC3 and Its Lipoprotein Lipase–Independent Effects
BACKGROUND Plasma triglyceride levels have been implicated in atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Apolipoprotein C-III (APOC3) plays a key role in the hydrolysis of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins to remnant particles by lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and their uptake by the liver. A rare variant in APOC3(rs138326449) has been associated with triglyceride, very low-density lipoprotein, and hig...
متن کاملRoles of lipoprotein lipase and hepatic triglyceride lipase in the catabolism in vivo of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
To define the roles, in vivo, of hepatic triglyceride lipase and lipoprotein lipase in the catabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, we investigated the relationship between the activities of the above enzymes in postheparin plasma and the fractional removal rates of very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) and VLDL remnant particles. In 22 patients, the fractional removal rates of VLDL and VLD...
متن کاملApolipoprotein A-V deficiency results in marked hypertriglyceridemia attributable to decreased lipolysis of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and removal of their remnants.
OBJECTIVE ApoAV, a newly discovered apoprotein, affects plasma triglyceride level. To determine how this occurs, we studied triglyceride-rich lipoprotein (TRL) metabolism in mice deficient in apoAV. METHODS AND RESULTS No significant difference in triglyceride production rate was found between apoa5(-/-) mice and controls. The presence or absence of apoAV affected TRL catabolism. After the in...
متن کاملA Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitor, Teneligliptin, Decreases Plasma Triglyceride-Rich Lipoprotein Remnants in Diabetic Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Undergoing Hemodialysis
OBJECTIVE A high plasma level of remnant-like particle cholesterol (RLP-C), which is equivalent to triglyceride-rich lipoprotein remnant, is an important coronary risk marker. RLP-C level is high, independent of other plasma lipids, in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. The effect of teneligliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP)-4 inhibitor, on plasma levels of RL...
